Dj’s have been critical to the nightlife scene for sometime now. Without a dj, a person is subjected to the whims and fancies of whoever makes it to the jukebox first. A party by definition is a movement: a congressional celebration if you will. Depending on the reason for the gathering the dj plays music accordingly because every movement has a mantra. A dj’s setlist is the mantra that transforms an average night out into a celebration. So when the right dj shows up you know: It’s a celebration bitches!

Every once in awhile you run across a dj who signifies the importance of a good ‘soundbwoy.’ Dj Kid Fresh is one of those dj’s. Just to hear how people speak about him is a testament to his talent and charisma. In general if you ask someone about their favorite dj, their eyes light up almost as if you’d offered them a treat.

So Kid Fresh, how did you get started as a dj? I went to a high school house party when I was still in middle school, peeped out how the dj controlled the crowd and thought it was the illest thing ever so I wet home and begged my mom to cop me some equipment. The rest is history!!

How does it feel to be one of the most popular djs in South Florida? Ft. Lauderdale is where most of my gigs are. I must say I’ve had a great year!

I imagine as a dj you have quite a collection of music. True? Yes very true!

Do you collect vinyl? Not anymore ever since the switch to cd's I’ve stopped collecting.

What is your favorite style of music to spin? Hip Hop.

How do you get a stale crowd to freshen up? You have to find the right joint to play!

How do you deal with DJ groupies? Lol, groupies? They still have those? I can't personally say I have any of those but if I did I guess I would treat them like I treat anyone else till they cross the line!!

Tell us about one of the worse nights of your career. Hmm I would have to say the time I went to a spot to set up and my hard drive had crashed and didn't want to boot up. Man that was a scary moment!!

Describe one of your best experiences at a club you worked. I would have to say one night at Nikki Marina had a bunch of celebs & big money clientele where a guy came over asked me to throw on some old school and dropped five bills in my hand just after Tom Joyner had come by the booth and told me I was doing a good job. That alone had made my night but the money made it even better lol!!

Where do you see yourself in five years? You know I ask myself that sometimes. Thank god I don't answer back then I might be crazy. Lol, but nah I really don't know. I hope to be traveling and hopefully be in a different position in this industry!!

So many dj's also dabble in music production, how about you? I got into making beats but I think that stuff requires time & patience in which I don't really have so haven't messed with that in a min!

What's the best thing about being a dj? You get paid to make others happy !!

Do you have a favorite club you like to play? I like all due to the fact I seem to always get a great staff of people to work with but crowd wise… hmm I would say I like Bleu Martini the most!!

How do you fit requests into your sets? I try to drop it either next song or within the next few its just a lot of people have iPods and I guess they go from one extreme to the next and they think that we are the same. “PEOPLE PLEASE… IF YOU’RE GONNA REQUEST A SONG DO IT IN THE SAME TEMPO. DON'T HEAR THE DJ PLAYING SEXY BITCH AND COME ASK FOR THIS IS WHY I'M HOT! ITS NOWHERE NEAR THE SAME TEMPO. AND DON'T EXPECT YOUR REQUEST TO BE PLAYED NEXT, LET US DO OUR THING!!!”

These days playing music is like playing with people's lives, have you noticed how important music is to people? Well being that we are going through tough times I know people come out to not have to think about what might be going on in their lives at that moment. I try to help by playing good music maybe throw on a joint that they haven't heard in a min to put a smile on their face!!

Tell our readers your 'Hidden Treasure.' Something they may not have expected or just don't know about you. Wow this is a good one I don't know what to say… Well actually I do have a foot fetish. I always look at ladies toes and the shoe game is very important ladies =)
